AFTERCARE! THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR PIERCING JOURNEY!
Thank you for trusting STUDIO XXVI with your new piercing. I work really hard to provide the best jewelry and utilize the safest and up to date piercing techniques.
Healing a new piercing is your responsibility, and is just as important as all the hard work I do. This is a Teamwork situation. I want this to heal and look amazing as much as you do.
Following the aftercare recommendations is the way to insure your piercing heals without complications. Often times new piercings will experience minor swelling, redness, and fluid discharge. This is all NORMAL in healing your piercing and should be expected for the first few weeks. Listen to your body, stay hydrated and well rested, this can all help with minimizing the swelling and redness around your new piercing. It is important to keep your piercing clean and dry at all times. Never handle your piercing with dirty hands, so no touching, twisting and turning, or removing your jewelry. No sleeping on your fresh piercing, this pressure is the most detrimental to healing. Avoid contact with creams, chemicals, ointments, or other potential irritants. Try not to use anything homemade on your new piercing. Just use fresh clean water and Hypochlorus acid spray or sterile saline wound wash. Any fresh piercing needs a longer post to accommodate the swelling stages. Downsizing your jewelry is another important step in the healing process of your piercing, this is usually recommended 4-8 weeks after your initial piercing, your piercer will use their best discretion when its appropriate to downsize.
Your initial jewelry is intentionally longer to allow room for the normal swelling that occurs after a new piercing. Once the swelling has gone down—typically between 4 - 8 weeks for most ear piercings—the jewelry should be replaced with a shorter post. (We just change the post the jewelry is attached to you keep the same top the pretty part of the earring. This is only for flatback earrings)
Downsizing helps prevent unnecessary movement, irritation, snagging, and pressure on the piercing, all of which can contribute to irritation bumps, prolonged healing, or crooked healing. Wearing jewelry that is too long for too long may also increase the risk of the piercing shifting or healing at an angle.
Downsizing is an important part of the healing process and should be performed by your piercer. Even if your piercing feels fine, scheduling your downsizing appointment helps ensure your piercing continues to heal properly and comfortably.
At Studio XXVI Piercing, we use only ASTM F-136 implant-grade titanium for all initial piercings. This is the same high-quality titanium trusted for many medical implants because it meets strict standards for safety, purity, and biocompatibility.
ASTM F-136 titanium is nickel-free, lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and exceptionally well tolerated by the body, making it one of the best materials available for healing piercings. Its smooth, polished finish helps minimize irritation and supports a healthier healing environment.
Using certified implant-grade titanium significantly reduces the risk of allergic reactions and sensitivities commonly associated with lower-quality metals. By starting every piercing with premium ASTM F-136 jewelry, we provide the safest foundation for a comfortable healing experience and long-term wear.
